Welcome to the Research in Developmental Disabilities and Language Lab (RIDDLL)!
We are interested in the development of language and cognitive skills in children and adults with developmental disabilities. Through our work, we hope to inform both clinical practice and theory on issues surrounding assessment and treatment of language, the impact of additional diagnoses on language and behavior, and overlap between syndromes. We work with families who have autistic children and children with fragile X syndrome, Down syndrome, late talkers, and developmental language disorder.
Current research questions include:
- What are the most effective language assessment methods for children with developmental disabilities?
- Are language and cognitive skills related to each other in children with developmental disabilities?
- How do language and cognition relate to mental health, reading, and everyday living skills in children and adolescents?
- How can we best capture how young children are talking and interacting with people in their home environment?
